That was super nice of them.
And now I’m mad that nobody told us we were given cows. Cause that’s really fucking nice and nobody mentioned it at all.
The importance of this post is so very underplayed. In Maasai lifestyle, cows represent essentially everything to them: food, trade, money, rituals, culture, literally EVERYTHING. It is a source of pride for tribe members, so much so that they greet each other by asking if the other’s cow is well. And they gave us FOURTEEN of them. They drink the smallest fraction of milk yielded from dairy cows just to save the rest to give to the calves to ensure their health, happiness and strength.
One “wealthy” person generally has 14 cows as their “bread and butter”, or their family’s source of sustenance. So basically it’s like a wealthy man signed over his entire fortune to the US to help after a disaster.
THIS IS HUGE. Especially based on how lowly and barbaric most tribal people are seen by Americans. THANK YOU MAASAI.
